Cookbook Swap Meet to stock the Good Samaritan Food Pantry
Carbondale, IL. Cookbooks needing a new home can find their future owner at Confluence Books’
Cookbook Swap Meet, 8 am – 12 pm on Saturday, May 4 (raindate May 11), at the east end of the
Carbondale Farmers Market. Tables will be set up for people to bring cookbooks that they want to pass
on to others, and to peruse and choose from the cookbooks that others have brought. Freewill donations
will be accepted, with all proceeds going directly to stock the Good Samaritan Food Pantry.
Cookbooks for giveaway can be delivered to the market on that Saturday or earlier in the week to the
Confluence Books bookstore at 705 West Main. “With an abundance of books, we can create an
environment of generosity, and people respond by paying according to their ability,” said Sarah Heyer,
owner of Confluence Books. “They know the donation goes to help the Food Pantry.” Checks can be
made out to Good Samaritan Ministries.
The Cookbook Swap Meet is a twist on Confluence Books’ usual “Buck-a-Book” table, found most
Saturdays at the Carbondale Farmers Market in Westowne Centre. April bucks will go to Keep
Carbondale Beautiful.
Cookbooks that remain at the end of the swap meet will be cleared out by Confluence Books. Some will
be given away or recycled; others might return to the Farmers Market as one-dollar books; and some
might go on the shelves at the bookstore. Watch for a “Free” table in front of the bookstore, at 705 W
Main Street after the Swap Meet.
